Destination Wedding — Round One

Kimberly & Sebastian

A gorgeous day in February 2028, an all-inclusive in Mexico, and a wedding that feels bougie without the bougie price tag. Here are the eight resorts on the table, with nightlife and nightly room rates filled in. Wedding package pricing is still coming in from most properties, so use this round to tell me who's in and who's out before we go deeper.

A closer look

Reception table setup overlooking the water at Secrets & Dreams Bahia Mita

Secrets & Dreams Bahia Mita

Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit

All-inclusive Adults-only or family side Has a nightclub Select suites have swim-out pool access

A great option. It hits adults-only and family-friendly both, since it's a dual property, so you don't have to pick a lane yet on guest list. Tucked-away spaces for both ceremony and reception, plus a rooftop option if you want a different backdrop. There's a nightclub on site, but the resort overall stays quiet, so it should still feel private for the wedding itself.

Oceanfront ceremony structure with floral arches at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit

Added as Mar del Cabo's all-inclusive sister resort

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit

Riviera Nayarit

All-inclusive Room rates run high Swim-up bar, no swim-up suite found

This is on the list as the all-inclusive alternative to Mar del Cabo — both part of the Velas Resorts family, though this one is up in Riviera Nayarit rather than Los Cabos. This is where the bougie brief comes to life. Beautiful resort, and the ceremony and reception spaces will work for your wishlist. The one thing to flag early: room pricing tends to run on the higher end, which could push the lodging piece past your comfort zone even before we get to the wedding package itself.

Beachfront ceremony setup at Marival Armony

My top pick for you two

Marival Armony

Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit

Only One Wedding per Day All-inclusive Family friendly Upscale resort Swim-up suites available

This resort is probably my favorite for you two. It's family friendly but reads more upscale than most family resorts in the area. Great spaces for both ceremony and reception, and they run music through the day without the resort ever tipping into party-hotel territory, so it should stay elegant for guests of any age. They also only book one wedding per day, so you know the wedding team and resort will only be focused on your for your big day.

Covered open-air ceremony venue at Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya, near Cancun

All-inclusive 18+ only — no kids Swim-up suites available

I think you'd love the vibe here. Gorgeous property, secluded feel, and it reads upscale the moment you walk in. The one hard stop: it's 18-plus only, so this eliminates any guests traveling with kids. Worth a look either way, but the family question needs to get settled before this one stays on the list. Adults-only could actually work in your favor here too — since it's already off the table for kids, this could double as a great honeymoon property if you two wanted a few private days here after the celebration.

Rooftop ceremony setup at Atelier Playa Mujeres overlooking the ocean and golf course

Atelier Playa Mujeres

Playa Mujeres, Cancun

All-inclusive 16+ only 50-guest minimum $31,600 wedding package 2-night pre-stay required Swim-out suites from ~$1,077/night

This is where you got engaged, and you already know you love the vibe and the food. Wedding spaces are beautiful, but three things push this one toward the back of the pack: a 50-guest minimum, a wedding package that starts at $31,600 before florals or DJ, and a requirement that the two of you arrive and stay two nights before the wedding date. Between the package cost and the room rate, this is the priciest resort on the list outside of Mar del Cabo.

Floating glass aisle ceremony setup over the pool at Dreams Playa Mujeres

Secrets & Dreams Playa Mujeres

Playa Mujeres, Cancun

All-inclusive Both — adults-only or family side Ceremony space confirmed Swim-out suites available

Same setup as Secrets & Dreams Bahia Mita: Secrets Playa Mujeres is the adults-only side, right next door to family-friendly Dreams, and guests move freely between both, so this one also doesn't force a guest-list decision yet. It sits right by Atelier, in a beach setting you already know you like, and the photo shows a striking glass aisle over the pool for ceremonies, so the venue itself checks out. Still waiting on the resort for package pricing and reception space details.

Oceanfront stone ceremony pavilion at Hard Rock Vallarta

Hard Rock Vallarta

Nuevo Vallarta

All-inclusive Family friendly Mid-remodel now Swim-up bar, no swim-up suite found

Another agent's recommendation. The resort is mid-remodel right now and the new rooms look great, which should work in our favor by February 2028. This one may lean better toward the party and after-hours side of your wishlist than the others, worth confirming timeline on the renovation before we lean on it too hard.

Beachfront ceremony arch on the sand at Mar del Cabo

On the list at your request

Mar del Cabo

Los Cabos

Not all-inclusive $40K–$60K avg. wedding spend No swim-up suite category

Beautiful property, and it's on the list at your request. Two things work against it, though: it's not all-inclusive, and the average wedding spend runs $40K to $60K, well past your $20K target. I'd rather give it to you straight than build it up, so you two can make the call together.

Before we build this out further

  • Rough guest count, since it decides whether Atelier's 50-person minimum is realistic
  • Family friendly vs. adults-only, since it eliminates Valentin either way it lands
  • Wedding package pricing is confirmed for Atelier ($31,600 to start); still coming in for the rest
